Equipment and setup
The phone, app and head strap you need, and how to wear the strap so both hands stay in the picture.
What you need
- A head strap. We provide it, on loan and free of charge. We ship it to the address in your application, or you can pick it up in person.
- An iPhone 12 or newer. You provide it. Your phone is the camera.
- Our recording app. You record and upload in the app we give you once you're approved and have passed the rules quiz.
How to wear the head strap
- Place the strap just above your eyebrows.
- Pull it tight, so it stays in place while you move.
- Mount your phone sideways (landscape), right-side up, lens facing forward.
- Tilt the phone down about 45 degrees, so both of your hands are in the picture.
- Make a 5-second test recording at working height: both hands should sit in the middle of the picture.
When the strap is set up well, both of your hands stay in the picture while you work. That matters, because recordings where your hands are out of view are not approved.
Before every recording
- Turn on the room lights. Daylight from one window is usually not enough.
- Wipe the lens clean with a soft cloth.
- Wear shoes, socks or slippers.
- Turn off the TV and put your phone, tablet and smartwatch out of reach.
Before your first recording
Read the recording rules. Approved Trainers also get the full Trainer Handbook and take a short rules quiz. If you have questions about pay, see how payments work.
